    Featured Speaker: Busy Philipps

    New York Times best-selling author, actress and television host, Busy Philipps, was the featured speaker at the second annual Alliance of Women Philanthropist Speaker Series.

    While attending Loyola Marymount University, Philipps was cast in her breakout role in Judd Apatow and Paul Feig's critically praised series, "Freaks and Geeks." She went on to appear in numerous acclaimed and award-winning television series including a recurring role on "ER" and a series regular on "Dawson's Creek."

    In the fall of 2018, Philipps released a collection of humorous autobiographical essays in her book "This Will Only Hurt A Little." It became a New York Times Best-Seller in the first week and offers the same unfiltered and candid storytelling that can be found on her social media pages. She also began hosting her own late-night talk show, "Busy Tonight" on E! network.

    Busy Philipps filmed a segment for her show while on campus, with fellow former LMU classmate, Colin Hanks. LMU received two award recognitions for the publicity surrounding the segment: Platinum PR Award 2019 Campaign Categories Winner for Speech/Speeches and Ragan Communication/PR Daily’s Media Relations Honorable Mention.

    Featured panelists Ron Brownstein (political correspondent and analyst), Ana Kasparian (Co-Host and producer of The Young Turks”) and Sara Sidner (CNN and CNN International correspondent) discussed journalism in today's political climate. The panel was moderated Carol Costello, journalist, LMU’s first lady, and AWP honorary chair. Attendees had the opportunity to network with the panelists at a reception following the panel.

    The 5th Annual Women in Athletics event was held at St. Supéry Estate Tasting Salon on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Mark Jones, ESPN Sportscaster and P ‘22, served as the Master of Ceremonies.  Guest had the opportunity to meet LMU coaches, alumni and parents while enjoying an interactive experience which included wine tasting with enhanced aromatherapy stations, a silent auction and gift basket raffle.

    Featured Speaker: Gretchen Carlson

    Television journalist and author, Gretchen Carlson, whose fight against workplace sexual harassment helped spark a national discussion about female empowerment and activism was the inaugural guest speaker for the Alliance of Women Philanthropists (AWP) Speaker Series.

    Named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people for 2017, Carlson is the author of, "Be Fierce: Stop Harassment and Take Your Power Back," in which she shares her experiences and those of other women who have reached out to her.
