It was a day unlike any other in LMU’s 109-year history. A day to show Lion pride. A day to share the LMU spirit with others. A day to give.

LMU’s Day of Giving came roaring back on Sept. 23, 2020, surpassing all expectations by raising $2,368,608 from 4,441 gifts in just 24 hours. The One LMU Drive campaign saw an increase of 169 percent over last year’s totals. Lions from 48 states and 11 countries came together to unlock 31 challenges and matching gift opportunities from 49 generous donors. Fueling the day’s success was LMU’s Loyola Law School, which celebrated its Centennial Day on Sept. 8 and raised more than $800,000 from more than 800 gifts.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff and even Buster, LMU’s therapy dog, got into the excitement of the day on social media. Videos, photos and passionate pleas to give to LMU were seen and heard on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and even TikTok.

Outpacing last year’s results by nearly $200,000, LMU Athletics raised an incredible $449,031 thanks in part to the generosity of donors who awarded challenge gifts to the top three men’s and women’s teams. Earning those top spots were women’s volleyball and beach volleyball, which totaled $52,670, and men’s soccer raising $41,385.

Women’s volleyball Head Coach Aaron Mansfield expressed his gratitude to all donors for pushing them to the top of the athletic leaderboard, earning the teams an additional $12,500 in challenge gifts. “We understand that these are challenging times and it means so much to us to see how many people stepped up to help our program push forward and grow. Our staff and players worked very hard to get the word out about the Day of Giving, and the support we felt from alumni, parents and families was unbelievable. The funds will be instrumental in providing an elite learning and high-performance environment for our student-athletes as we build towards winning championships.”

Paul Krumpe, head coach for men’s soccer, echoed Mansfield’s sentiment. “Thank you so much to all of you who contributed and know that all of our programs will be finding the best way for these dollars to make the most impact for our student-athletes. I’ve watched LMU Athletics grow and develop for the past 22 years. That growth does not happen without support from each of you.”
