A New Standard

Men’s basketball Coach Stan Johnson is ready to W.I.N. That is, Johnson is focused on What’s Important Now. And what’s important now is giving our existing facilities a long overdue renovation, providing the coach and his staff the optimal environment in which to recruit top talent.

With tremendous support from donors, these renovations will significantly enhance our ability to attract blue-chip recruits to the program. Among the spaces that will receive much-needed upgrades are the Walk of Champions (men’s basketball corridor and Gersten East hallway), the men’s basketball locker room, the recruiting war room, the Lion Athletic Center (LAC) Strength and Conditioning Center, and the backcourt practice facility. New equipment are also needed for the LAC Strength and Conditioning Center.

Longtime athletic supporters, LMU Trustee Michelle Dean ’84 and her husband Tim Dean ’82 were among the donors to step up to the plate with a gift to fund the recruiting war room, which includes coaches’ offices. “We enjoy being able to reconnect with LMU through our love of watching sports,” said Michelle on behalf of both of them. “We were inspired by what Coach Johnson has been able to do in his short time here, despite not being able to come to campus or meet his players in person. It was important for us to do whatever we could to help fuel his creativity and passion.”

Johnson’s mission for men’s basketball is to take people to places they can’t take themselves. That means creating an environment where players can accomplish great things academically, athletically and socially. LMU’s first step in achieving this mission is to give our coaches a point of pride when walking recruits through our athletic facilities, and signal to our student-athletes that they are deserving of first-class facilities.

“We felt that funding the recruiting war room demonstrates to our incoming and current students that they matter to the school,” said Michelle.

There are a few remaining opportunities left to support Johnson’s vision. To learn more and take the first step in building our future for LMU as a home of champions, visit here.
