Melissa Mooney ’06 joined University Advancement as director of development for the LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts (CFA) in fall 2020. With a passion for matching an organization’s needs with individuals who want to make an impact, Mooney has been a people-focused fundraiser for more than a decade on the East Coast and West Coast, at institutions including Columbia Law School, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and USC. In overseeing fundraising efforts for CFA, Mooney executes a fundraising strategy to achieve ambitious goals focused on securing support for the scholarship, programs, and endowment needs.

Mooney is dedicated to cultivating philanthropy that helps create the next generation of leaders and artists as well as a better world through the power of education. As a first-generation college student and daughter of Central American immigrants, she knows firsthand the transformational power higher education offers. She also knows the power of Jesuit and Catholic education: Mooney attended Notre Dame Academy for Girls for high school, LMU for undergraduate studies (at CFA, no less), and Fordham, the Jesuit university of New York, for graduate studies.

A native Angeleno, on weekends you can find her outdoors riding her bike to Seal Beach, gardening in her backyard, or hiking in Palos Verdes. She is also an avid traveler and plans on visiting new lands; she is currently leading her husband in how many countries they’ve visited. The score: 26-20.
