Director of Development, Diversity Initiatives
Jazlyn Turner joined University Advancement as director of development in 2018. She brings more than a decade of experience in fundraising, board management, donor stewardship and superior customer service. Turner serves as the primary major gift officer for diversity initiatives, including but not limited to the LMU African American Alumni Association (AAAA) and the LMU Latino Alumni Association (LAA). She is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive development program to engage alumni, parents, friends, business and civic leaders in scholarship support. In her role, Turner drives successful board relations and giving, as well as supports the agenda, program and membership of the AAAA and LAA boards.
Prior to joining LMU, Turner worked for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, community relations and development department. She was responsible for identification, involvement and cultivation for the Board of Governors and Women's Guild. Turner began her work in the nonprofit world through the New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Inglewood, California, an organization founded by her grandparents (Rev. Milton M. and Mrs. Gloria S. Merriweather) in 1952. She served as the church administrator for four years.
Turner earned her executive master of business administration degree from Loyola Marymount University in 2016 and bachelor of arts degree in sociology with a minor in English from California State University Dominguez Hills in 2007. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® and a member of the National Black MBA Association. In her free time, you will find Turner in the stands cheering for her teenage son at one of his baseball or football games, searching for the best Los Angeles culinary experiences, or reading a book on the beach.
