Dan Montoya joined University Advancement as executive director of development, major gifts in 2021. He brings more than 20 years of experience in non-profit and higher education fundraising. As the executive director of development, major gifts, Montoya is responsible for providing team leadership, strategy for major and principal gift fundraising, volunteer management, and oversight of administrative support to the development team. He comes to LMU from San Diego State University where he was the assistant vice president for development and alumni relations, responsible for the engagement, cultivation, and solicitation of 430,000 alumni that involved annual giving, crowdfunding, and pipeline support. Prior to this, he served in many development roles, including major gift fundraising for student affairs, parents, college of business, and engineering.

He is a US Navy veteran and traveled to many parts of the world. He says his military experience was his life degree in which he learned and embraced cultures from many different parts of the world. He earned a MBA from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from San Diego State University.

In his free time, Montoya enjoys the game of golf and experiencing new courses throughout Southern California. He also is a big food lover and enjoys exploring different cuisine and culinary styles. He loves to travel and can’t wait to explore new travel adventures soon. He is excited to join LMU and build great relationships throughout the university community.
