Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement
Carla joined University Advancement in 2009. She brings 15 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations and event production for corporate, media, startup, nonprofit companies across diverse industries and higher education. As assistant director, Cruz is responsible for alumni volunteer engagement. In her role, she is responsible for recruiting alumni to assume volunteer leadership roles working closely with the Latino Alumni Association, the African American Alumni Association, the Asian Pacific Islander Alumni Network, regional ambassadors and affinity anniversaries.
She comes to LMU from Univision Television Group where she served as Marketing Manager establishing a brand identity and marketing strategy for a portfolio of five Spanish-language cable networks on a national and international level, securing network launches with top cable and satellite distributors through targeted marketing initiatives. Prior to this, she helped launch the Spanish daily newspaper, Hoy, a Los Angeles Times affiliate throughout Southern California. She is an award-winning, bilingual, marketing and communications strategist.
She earned a Master of Communication Management from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. She received a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Communication Studies and Spanish and had the honor of also being a student abroad with Syracuse University at the Madrid Spain campus. In her free time, Cruz enjoys swimming, being a student of culinary and baking arts, and cheering for the LA Kings!
