Executive Director of Development, Gift Planning
Carí Jackson Lewis joined University Advancement as director of development, gift planning in 2021. Lewis is a nonprofit, tax, and philanthropy strategist and a seasoned trusts and estates lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in estate, tax, and charitable gift planning across diverse, international, and domestic settings. As executive director of development, gift planning, Lewis is responsible for directing and managing the identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual planned and major gift prospects.
A certified specialist in planned giving and an accredited estate planner, Lewis comes to LMU from the California Community Foundation (CCF) where, as a senior development officer, Lewis cultivated and managed relationships with high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals, their families, and their trusted advisors to promote CCF’s family-office-style philanthropic consulting and planned giving services, mission and systems-change area programs initiatives. Prior to this, Lewis worked as an estate planning lawyer, in grants management, and as a fundraiser for law firms and nonprofit organizations in New York, California, Australia, and London.
Lewis earned her A.B. from Dartmouth College, a Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School, and her LL.M. in taxation from LMU Loyola Law School (Go Lions!) In her free time, Lewis enjoys celebrating and uplifting diversity, equity, and inclusion everywhere she lives, works, and plays, and spending time with her magnificent husband Preston; their three amazing children, Carson, Faith, and Jackson; and their magical rescue Australian blue heeler doggo, Harry Potter Lewis.
